Number Mixer

Combine, match, and discover the power of numbers!

Activity details

Become a master of numbers and mathematical symbols.

Goals

To recognise mathematical symbols in braille.
To apply the rules of maths operations.

The adult prepares

  • 1 baseplate with a number-sign brick in the top left corner

  • all of the number-bricks in a bowl

  • all of the maths-symbol bricks in a second bowl

The children play

1

Tell the child to take 2 bricks from the number-brick bowl and write a 2-digit number.

2

Ask them to find 3 different mathematical operations whose result is the number written above, and write these operations using the bricks from the 2 bowls.

Facilitation tips

  • Encourage the children to explore different types of operations to match the number. Several
    correct answers are possible.

  • Peer collaboration: one player writes the operations and the other finds the correct answer.

  • Challenge the children to use only one type of maths operation (addition, subtraction,
    multiplication) to reach their number.
