We are braille advocates

Marie Oddoux, Occupational Therapist, and Marc Angelier, Teacher of the Visually Impaired

The Braille Program promotes early braille learning so that visually impaired or blind children can receive an education.

Developed for the LEGO® Foundation, it supports professionals and families in teaching braille and pre-braille, using the LEGO Braille Bricks playful concept.

With the LEGO Foundation support, we train teachers to understand braille and pre-braille, and how to teach them through play.
LEGO Braille Bricks toolkits and training are free of charge.

Over 20 years of collaboration and experience

When Marie Oddoux and Marc Angelier met in 2004, their complementary expertise in visual impairment came together perfectly. They started working on common projects, guiding families and children holistically from early developmental needs to higher education, to give them the best possible access to braille.

Travelling the world for braille advocacy

Over the years, they carried out research on pre-braille in the United States, Canada, and South Africa, wrote books for children and parents, and trained visual impairment professionals and teachers abroad, building an extensive international network.

The LEGO Braille Bricks project

When the LEGO Foundation looked for braille experts to test their braille bricks prototypes, it was only natural that they should cross paths with Marc and Marie. Within a year, they created the activities supporting the LEGO Braille Bricks concept, meeting with practitioners from many countries to adapt it for global use.

The Braille Program

After 5 years working hands in hands with the LEGO Foundation and with its full support, Marie and Marc created The Braille Program under a social enterprise modelled on the British CIC (Community Interest Company). Its mission is to structure the training and support of practitioners in each country where LEGO Braille Bricks are available, to ensure the project sustainability in the long run, while implementing the project in more and more countries.
