Goals

To recognise letter-bricks and make their sounds.
To track a row and sing a rhythm.

The adult prepares

  • 1 baseplate

  • 10 vowel bricks

  • 10 equal-sign bricks

  • 1 bowl

Align 11 bricks across the top of the baseplate.
Place vowel bricks and equal-sign bricks randomly, leaving a space after each. Put the other
bricks in the bowl.

The children play

Ask the child to read the line.

When they read a vowel, ask them to say it aloud.

When they find an equal-sign, tell them to invent a sound.

So in front of you, you have a musical baseplate.
When you have the equal sign, you have to make a sound with your mouth.
When you have a letter, you have to make the sound of the letter.
