  • Tactile exploration

Goals

To develop tactile exploration technique and practice locating bricks, in order to recreate an identical flat sculpture.

The adult prepares

  • 8 equal-sign bricks “=”

  • 1 baseplate

  • 1 bowl

Create a flat 4-brick sculpture on the baseplate.
Place the other 4 bricks in a bowl.

The children play

1

Ask the child to find the sculpture created on the baseplate and explore it.

2

Tell the child to make a twin sculpture on the baseplate.

Facilitation tips

  • Allow adequate time for the child to progress through trial and error.

  • Create 3D sculptures.

  • Peer play: one player creates a sculpture, the other builds the twin.

  • We chose the equal-sign to avoid any symmetry errors (the 4 points are at the centre of each brick). Of course, the printed equal sign is to be ignored.
