Build a wall and imagine what’s behind it!

Activity details

Make sure the wall is straight, with all the bricks facing the same direction.

Goals

To develop the notion of alignment.
To develop fine motor skills.

The adult prepares

  • 1 baseplate

  • 24 bricks

  • 1 bowl

Build the first row of bricks in the wall by making a line with 8 horizontal bricks, beginning in the top left corner of the baseplate.

Place the other 16 bricks in the bowl.

The children play

The children build the wall by adding bricks row by row, from left to right.

Facilitation tips

  •  Explain that the wall must be straight, with all the bricks in the same direction.

  • Suggest the children explore their wall with their fingers to make sure all the bricks are aligned.

  • Change the height and/or length of the wall.

  • Use a timer.
