To understand the concept of filling.

The adult prepares

  • 1 baseplate

  • all the bricks in the box

Build a rectangle on the baseplate.

The children play

1

The child explores the edges of the rectangle and fills it…

2

…with as many bricks as possible.

Facilitation tips

  • Ask the child to build the rectangle themselves, before filling it in.

  • Vary the size of the rectangle.

  • Say: ‘What could this rectangle be?’ then ‘What are you filling it with?’ (eg. The rectangle is a window and we are filling it with curtains).

  • Prepare the exact number of bricks needed to fill the rectangle.
