Fill the Rectangle

How many bricks can you attach in that shape?

It’s like paving a road. We do not want a hole!

Goals

To explore a rectangular shape.
To understand the concept of filling.

Build a rectangle on the baseplate.

The child explores the edges of the rectangle and fills it…

…with as many bricks as possible.

Ask the child to build the rectangle themselves, before filling it in.
Vary the size of the rectangle.
Say: ‘What could this rectangle be?’ then ‘What are you filling it with?’ (eg. The rectangle is a window and we are filling it with curtains).
Prepare the exact number of bricks needed to fill the rectangle.
