Trees grow fast in The Enchanted Forest!

Activity details

They are not columns of bricks, they are trees and they will climb upon the wall.

Goals

To discover spatial relationships on a vertical plate.
To recognise notions of alignment.

The adult prepares

  • 1 baseplate

  • 16 or more random bricks in a bowl

  • adhesive putty

Apply adhesive putty to the back of the baseplate and stick it to the wall at shoulder height for children.

Attach one brick horizontally in the bottom left corner of the baseplate.

The children play

Tell the child that the first brick is the beginning of a tree.

The child adds bricks to make the tree grow.

The child grows many trees to create an enchanted forest.

Facilitation tips

  • Say: Imagine what magical things happen in your enchanted forest”

  •  Start the tree with more than one brick.

  • In preparation, start several trees.

  • Facilitate peer play.
