The child explores the baseplate…

… to find the first letter of their name.

Facilitation tips

  • Capital letter signs are not used in this activity because it can be difficult for a young child to
understand the concept of using 2 bricks for one letter.

  • Suggest singing the alphabet while reading the letters.

  • Find the first letters of the names of other people (classmates, friends, relatives, famous people
    etc.)

  • Find the first letters of words in a given category (animals, fruits, countries etc.)

I have prepared,
you can touch it, on the base plate, all the letters.
And I would like you just to pick one brick
that is the first letter of your name.
And take it.
Great.
So what letter is it? -’A’.
Yeah.
And what is your name? -Aurora.
Great.
And can you do it now with my name? -Yeah.
So remember, my name is Marc.
Okay, I’m just placing it here.
Can you read it to check if it’s the right one?
What letter is it? -‘Mmm.’
‘Mmm’. Mark.
And for you, you said this one. -’A’.
So is it ‘A’ for Aurora and ‘M’ for?
Marc. -Marc. Great!
