The Dice Decide

Follow the dice and find the dots.

Activity details

Roll two dice to get two numbers. Each number corresponds to the position of a dot. Can you find a letter that uses at least both of the dots decided by the dice?

Goals

To match the numbers 1 to 6 with the positions of the dots on the braille cell.

The adult prepares

  • 1 baseplate

  • all the bricks

  • 2 dice

The children play

1

Player 1 rolls the two dice and reads the numbers.

They find a brick with at least two of the dot numbers on their dice: here dot 2 and dot 5.

They store the brick on the baseplate.

2

Player 2 takes turn.
Here, they find a letter with dot 1 and dot 3.

If the player rolls doubles, they must roll again.

Facilitation tips

  • Encourage light tactile exploration of the bricks. Say: “Just touch them – don’t try to crush them!”.

  • Change the number of dice.

  • Change the rules: the player must find bricks without the studs that correspond to the numbers rolled.
