Guess It!

Does the secret brick have a dot 1? What about a dot 2?

Basic braille Activity

  • Letters
  • Pattern of dots
  • Socialisation
  • Tactile discrimination

Level: 3

Number of players: 2 and +

Duration: 15 min

Skills:

  • Identify the 6 dots in a braille cell

  • Name, read and write letters

  • Improve auditory skills

  • Maintain attention

So it could be a B!

Goals

To find the location of the dots and familiarise with the pattern of the letters.

The adult prepares

  • 1 baseplate

  • 2 sets of letter-bricks A, B, C, L

  • a bag

Place one set of A, B, C, L, in the bag.
Line up the other set on a baseplate.

The children play

1

Tell player 1 to choose a secret brick from the bag, explore it and memorise the location of the dots.

2

Explain to player 2 that they have to ask questions about the dots: “Does the secret brick have a dot 3?”
Player 2 can use the letters on the baseplate to prepare their questions.

3

Player 1 answers yes or no, and player 2 can make a guess.

4

They continue until player 2 correctly identifies the secret brick.

Facilitation tips

  • Explain what a “Yes or No” question is.

  • Suggest asking two types of questions: the number of dots on the brick and the positions of these dots.

  • Allow guesses about dots’ constellation (ex: dot 1 and dot 4) or letter names (letter C).

  • Increase the number of letters.
