The Avenue

Build a long avenue and go for a walk… with your fingers!

Activity details

This activity helps children to make lines.

Goals

To practise attaching bricks to the baseplate.
To understand notions of alignment.

The adult prepares

  • 1 baseplate

  • 16 bricks

  • 1 bowl

To start the avenue, place one brick vertically, at the top left corner of the baseplate.

The children play

The child adds bricks to finish the avenue.

Then they walk their fingers up and down the avenue, like a pedestrian.

Facilitation tips

  • Say : ‘Imagine where the pedestrian is going and what they’re going to do there.’

  •  Stick the baseplate to a wall to change the child’s perspective.
