Make a Masterpiece

You’re the artist! Create a piece of art and give it a title.

Activity details

20 bricks! What object will you build, what shape will you make, what story will you tell? It’s up to you!

Goals

To develop vocabulary, imagination and creativity.

The adult prepares

  • 1 baseplate

  • 1 alphabet baseplate

  • 20 random bricks in a bowl

The children play

1

Tell the child to build a 3D sculpture representing a fruit, an animal, a piece of furniture, a person… or something else entirely.

This will be their masterpiece!

2

Ask the child to choose one word as a title for their work of art.

They write it on the baseplate.

Facilitation tips

  • Say: Tell me a story about your artwork.

  • Ask: Why did you choose the word that you wrote?

  • Write the title first and let the child build the masterpiece.

  • The colour of bricks can be relevant in an artistic masterpiece. Blind children understand that each brick has a specific colour and they can use them accordingly (N to represent green for leaves, B for yellow for the sun).
